“In truth, anyone who looks into the mirror of water will first see their own face... But that mirror lies behind the mask, and it shows the true face... our own shadow. The shadow is a narrow passage, a narrow door... Yet to know oneself, one must learn to know this shadow. For what follows behind the door is, astonishingly, an immeasurably vast space full of unprecedented uncertainty.”– Carl Jung, Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious, pp. 43–37
This was the first work in which I incorporated rivets and nails as materials. The face may appear to be that of a beautiful deer, yet the coarse, heavy symbolism of the nail disrupts its serenity.Through this tension, I hoped to express the deer’s desperate longing—to see not just a reflection on the water, but the true face that lies behind the mask.To face its own shadow.
